VIVIAN MARTÍNEZ – CUBA
The workshop is a combined series of conferences and theoretic-practical exercises of an analysis of a performance, complemented by debates dealing with the specific show (that will be seen at the beginning of the event or, in any case, before the second meeting, which may lead to a dialogue with the creative team). If possible, at the conclusion, students will write a paper using the evaluation tools learned.
It is organized for performers of different disciplines, theatre, communications and humanistic scholars; cultural journalists interested in theatre and, theatre lovers, who will take away an understanding of the staging discourse and will receive bibliography specialized on the topic.
- The nature of theatre. Notions of dramaturgy. Staging as a system of signs and a communications and artistic process.
- The theatrical event as a system of thought. Ethics and Utopia. Drama and performativity.
- The components of the language of theatre. Appreciation of audiovisual language of the stage (how to learn to watch and listen comprehensively to the theatre discourse) Dismantling a show.
- Theatre critique: the work and creation. Tools for analysis: Kowzan, Pavis, Ubersfeld, Dubatti, etc. Duties and reach of a critique.
Vivían Martínez Tabares (Cuba)
Theatre critic and researcher, writer, editor, educator and researcher. Ms Martinez Tabares, General Secretary of the Cuban Center of the International Association of Theatre Critics (AICT in Spanish), was born in in Havana, Cuba in 1956, She has been a member of the commission of scholars for the School of Performing arts of ISA since 1998. She is also on the board of directors of the International School of Theatre of Latin America and the Caribbean, Advisory board of the Letras Cubanas, a publishing group and, of the International Festival of Los Angeles Latino Theatre Festival. Her most known published work: Teatro por el Gran Octubre; José Sanchis Sinisterra: explorar las vías del texto dramático; y Didascalias urgentes de una espectadora interesada.
